Even though it has been a while since I last spoke about Leroux’s world, it never really left me. I have been diving into Erik’s backstory by the hand of Susan Kay, author of Phantom. This has been my most difficult reading to date, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the worst.

I have posted the script for my paper from the Horror Studies Now conference to Knowledge / Humanities Commons (@hello). Stephen Knight and History Seen Through a Gothic Lens outlines some ideas around how the gothic mode represents historical drama, and why it is so relevant to now. https://hcommons.org/deposits/item/hc:66883/
While there, you can take a look at my other papers on the topic (and others)!
