Aulia Masna<p>Malaysians on Threads learning Indonesian vocabularies is hilarious. We’re pretty creative when coming up with terminologies, mashing up words, borrowing foreign words, with every decade having its own set of slang vocabs, although not every word survives the youth of each generation.</p><p>As young Malaysians embrace even more Indonesian words and pronunciations, Malaysian Malay is actually under threat and the effort to preserve the language will no doubt be intensified.</p><p>Meanwhile the reverse isn’t true. Aside from a handful of words, Indonesians aren’t that interested in adopting or integrating Malay vocabs and we don’t consume Malaysian media. The enthusiasm just isn’t there. Why? Lack of exposure, relevance, and need. Dendan Setia (Nins)<p>Not to be patriotic on main or whatever but I do appreciate the sheer derangement of our merdeka parades over the weekend, from the carnival atmosphere with the crazy floats or the deranged thirst from the people (it was clear people were trying to top each other's cheer/roasts - and it's mutual.
