I wish I had a better intrinsic feel for metric. 10cm, 40 kilos, 25 celsius.. I gotta convert in my head.. and I usually use arounds.. like.. a meter is around a yard.. temp is kinda half.. but I know its a rough estimate and its frustrating...

Thanks imperial random weird cups and gallons, ounces and pounds.. I wish I never knew you..

Listening to American YouTubers who do technical stuff (electronics, engineering,...) are truly painful and confusing. They constantly switch between imperial and metric. For example wire gauge is in AWG, but the polyimide tape is always in millimeters. The measurements and files/rasps are in imperial (e.g., 1/32nd or the other one), but 3D printing is in mm.

We are officially 201 years after British Weights and Measures Act of 1824. Maybe it is time all of us switch to #metric!

Long story short, the USA has been a PITA for-EVER.

"The metric system is now used by virtually every country in the world. And it's the scientific standard, especially in meteorological circles.

"Even after the switch, Imperial units have crept back. Height is often measured in feet and inches and weight in pounds.

"You can thank our neighbors to the south who remain the one true outlier. But don't try asking a Canadian kid nowadays what the temperature is in Fahrenheit."

Why did Canada switch to metric?

@jeffmcneill true, but are they something that a normal person use in their normal day to day life?

There is a section in SI page called "Non-SI units accepted for use with SI" that although does not mention those two you mentioned, but I found it interesting nonetheless:

> non-SI units accepted for use with SI, including the hour, minute, degree of angle, litre, and decibel.

I personally disagree with litre because it is 0.001 m^3, but alas, these exist.

I know young lads who drive #HotHatches often get a bad reputation (and middle aged men more so!) and #CarCulture has a lot of problems - but to their credit, #Facebook groups for #VW #GolfGTI enthusiasts (especially #UK ones) are one of the few places you don't get a fuckton of casual #racism and #Reform supporters everywhere (they are even more wholesome than forums) - although I am slightly cynical and do wonder if its because there are so many #BritishAsian / #Desi + #CentralEuropean lads on there no one wants to piss them off, they are a source of good advice and used #cars and #parts

The worst you see is well meaning USA folk replying with valid advice but in strange units (like quarts of oil, ft/lbs for torque when everything on a #Euro car is in #metric since 1970s!)
