Krass.

Dear @Mer__edith and the the amazing @signalapp team,

After the last update, the Signal "desktop app" is requiring us to launch the mobile app - however, many of us do not have the Android or any other "mobile" version of the Signal app any more.

We are a large (by our standards) group of #Linux phone users, and your "desktop" app is our "mobile" app : )

Our previous phones on which #SignalApp was initially activated was an Android or Apple device and we have since then completely migrated to #Linuxphones. Some of us may have registered Signal on #signalcli, Flare, #Molly, Signal Android in #WayDroid, etc.

The #mobileLinux community is growing - we have members spanning a good number of projects and devices, e.g.
- @purism #Librem5 and #LibertyPhone running #Debian-based #PureOS #GnuLinux, #Alpine-based #PostmarketOS or #Mobian,
- @PINE64 #Pinephone and PP Pro running #ManjaroARM, #SailfishOS, etc.
- @furilabs #FLX1 running #Droidian-based #FuriOS,
- a wide variety of Android phones (including OnePlus 6, Google Pixel 3, #Fairphone 4 & 5) running #Alpine-based @postmarketOS ,
- @volla , #Fxtec and #Brax3 devices running #UbuntuTouch by @ubports,
- devices running @mobian which is part of #Debian project, etc.

[Apologies to any project I may have failed to include - you are all appreciated]

This is some bs. If AOSP development is made less publicly accessible it does NOT " simplify things for developers" but rather it hinders it for de-googled privacy respecting ROMs and their device ports. The need for continued and ramped up efforts developing alternative mobile OS's, like Ubuntu Touch, Sailfish OS, Droidian, Mobian, Postmarket, etc. is even more apparent with this move by Google.

I daily-drive #Debian since ≈1995, I'm a Debian developer since 1998, and I even run its mobile variant, #Mobian, on my phone! so my answer is strongly biased 🙂

Pros: Debian is made by a huge, dedicated community of volunteers, no company behind it, rock stable, huge selection of packages.

Cons: Sometimes outdated software, maybe not the easiest distro to use, probably many more, that I'm too prejudiced to see.

@scy

It depends on your personal preferences, of course, but for myself:

1. I don't want to use any walled garden, which rules out Threema.

2. I want to use a client, that is part of my OS (#Debian, #Mobian), which for the time being also rules out Deltachat (but I guess, this gets fixed in the next years).

As I don't know nothing about IRC, I stay on #Jabber/#XMPP since 2014, before Signal even existed 🙂

I finally went with diginate.com for the @mobian stickers, and also ordered some samples from Sticker Mule. I received both today, and prefer the Diginate ones (on the right):

* more contrast, colors are more vivid
* powerful editor to precisely adjust the cutting mask and padding (avoid unwanted white borders)
* accept 600dpi pictures for a slightly more detailed result

Both look nice and are well cut though, and the photo really doesn't do them justice

Hi @phosh, I'm currently running #Mobian with #Phosh on a #Librem5. It looks great and works very well. Thanks for all this great work!

I have a question though, because I'm not a big fan of background images. Is it be possible to completely disable the background image and have just a black background (or could a plain black background be added)?

I like the very clean non-distracting black background like it currently is on #PureOS Byzantium.

I just love #linux. Google decided to give a shit about peoples privacy. Now Google can kiss my ***. I installed #mobian on my One Plus 6 (which was also out of support). Now it’s a fast Linux Phone. And I could manage to run a nginx server on it with ease. Wonderful! Debian 12 on my Phone! Awesome!
