Weirdly, I am deeply excited about Monday because Apple is releasing the much talked about iOS 26. As I value aesthetics as much as functionality...It looks like a solid update to me, features with a better coat of paint.
Still debating on if I actually switch to Android because Google is doing some skeevy shit (just as much as Apple these days).
If I do, it will be to a Fairphone 6 or another brand that seems to be on the level enough (as I can excise most changes using ADB, since that works on Linux). It might be wise to do some reading and figure things out while I have the time to consider my choices that will be acted upon later down the road.
A new fraud tactic has emerged in Osaka Prefecture, in which scammers send elderly people smartphones before swindling them using the devices. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/09/12/japan/crime-legal/scam-smartphone-elderly/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #japan #crimelegal #phones #japanesepolice #elderly #osaka #socialmedia #fraud
It's about time I got myself a new #android phone, any recommendations?
A long time ago I had a #xiaomi which I quite liked but I hear they're not so good any more?
When that broke I got a #NokiaX20 as a temporary phone before splurging on a #googlepixel 6 pro. The camera on that was great but the screen got a weird green tint I couldn't get rid of. After a drop the screen eventually gave up.
Now I've been back on the Nokia for a while but it won't update past Android 14 (that might be a good thing with all the AI crap Google is pushing) so looking for something new that will last me for a long time.

"...if you wanna build a new OS, you’re working on an existing OS while you’re doing that, and if you’re making a new language compiler, you’re using an existing language compiler to do that usually.
Same goes for building a meaningful offline life."
Bought a Moto Edge 50 Neo to replace a Xiaomi Redmi 10 pro. I have a Moto G30 (a tank phone). Plan is to sell the Redmi and buy a refurb Pixel, and try out Graphene. tbh Moto phones have been easily the most robust and reliable Ive had, my love of Moto goes back to the 90s.
I still have a fully working Samsung A3 (used as wifi radio), and an HTC Wildfire! Also had a nice Wiley Fox, great Nokias, and yes, Ive had a lot of phones over the years.
Want to keep students from staring at their phones during class? More schools across the U.S. are banning phones from the classroom, and a school district in New Jersey found a way to lock them up (The phones, not the students). Read more from @CBSNews:
