True, they are really annoying.
Can this url be used as a #pihole custom filter, too? Or do I need to change the syntax in some way so pihole can work with it? Thx in advance!

My fellow geeky/nerdy people - looking into running #pihole or similar.
Torn between adding a physical system or just using Docker on the main system.
Thoughts? Warnings?
How to Use a Lenovo ThinkCentre M910q as a Powerful Home Server
As an IT enthusiast, I’ve long been (and still are!) a fan of the #RaspberryPi mini computers. My main Pi already runs multiple services like #PiHole, #Navidrome and #Jellyfin – which often pushes it near its limits. Well, recently I found myself wanting to add even more services to my local network. Unfortunately, my NAS can’t host Docker containers, so expanding compute power became necessary.

I'm doing the weekly home IT update chore this morning. I wasn't home last week, so there's a lot.
- OPNsense minor upgrade (save 25.7 for next week)
- New firmware for two Omada access points
- PI-Hole 25.7
- Home Assistant Core and ESPHome Builder
- Karakeep 0.26.0
Then I'm going to take the first steps in the TrueNAS Core -> Scale migration. That'll go on for days if not weeks.
Streamlined my #selfhosting because #pihole complained about CPU usage when jellyfin was running as well.
So: moved #navidrome to new minicomputer
moved #jellyfin to new minicomputer (AND into container)
made #peertube remote runner a permanent resident on the minicomputer
used nice hostnames for all services via #traefic
nice overview via #Portainer
static indexpage so that I don't have to remember what's running where
It went better than hoped - but still a couple of hours
Testing Pi-hole for home wide ad-blocking. Got it up and running on my Rasperry Pi zero 2W now.
Any opinions here about Pi-hole in general?
see for what I used: https://www.raspberrypi.com/tutorials/running-pi-hole-on-a-raspberry-pi/
In my never ending work to become more independent of US stuff I changed my home's pi-hole to use @EUCommission's #DNS4EU. Using the unfiltered option as I'm applying my own filters.
Let's see how this works.

@redstarfish @pivic @JonathanMBR also, if you can, use a network-level blocker, like #PiHole.
I use that at home, and the #wireguard vpn on my phone and laptop to connect back to home (when possible, as some free WiFi places block strange ports ) and use PiHole. It helps a lot.
For the Web, I can warmly recommend the combination of #Firefox and #uBlockOrigin. It's so good that, on occasions when my PiHole has gone down, I've not even noticed.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/
That won't stop tracking and advertising outside the Web browser — #PiHole is still the right solution there.
I can believe it. Mrs Wife sometimes grumbles about our #PiHole. She hasn't understood that #AdBlocking is infosec.
Lot of people having trouble with browser-level adblock options.
Consider rectifying that. Small cost but network-wide blocking, so they can't just turn it off on a whim because it's no longer supported.
Get even a PI3 board for cheap, dangle it off the back of your router and run #PiHole on it. Wouldn't be without that on my network now.
So @naomibrockwell blew my mind about how are smart TVs are spying on us with Automatic Content Recognition and other advertising profile scripts. Yikes! Thanks for the heads up!

I don’t have the resources to switch to a more secure streaming device yet (I’m gonna build one with mini PC running LibreELEC with Kodi hopefully).
In the meantime, I setup a Pi-Hole on an old Raspberry Pi 3B I had laying around last night to block as many ads and outgoing unwanted scripts as I could.

It is working great from what I tell! Even removed the ads from my Roku TV home pages lol! I’m sure some stuff is getting through, but at least it’s minimal.
Here is the PiHole install video I watched from Micro Center, but I also added SSH via private/public keys too. How to Block Ads Using a Pi-Hole With A Raspberry Pi

Oh and it has a built-in Star Trek NG LCARS theme!

Hey #tailscale #homelab crowd, I need your wisdom! In my network I run a few services, some of them are on tailnet, some of them aren't. My clients are mostly on tailnet, but some aren't. I don't have DNS server for local name resolution - I just use #headscale DNS extra records to point clients to most important services.
Now, I want #pihole. How to make it available for both Tailscale and non-tailscale clients? Am I reading correctly that I'll need another DNS server to resolve local names?
I just found this Raspberry Pi 3 starter kit I got for my son a few years ago. He never used it.
Any suggestions as to what I can build with it?
I'm already running a #pihole server.
