A Sleepy Orange (Eurema nicippe) butterfly enjoying some of my Mohr's Rosinweed (Silphium mohrii). It is an uncommon flower only found in a few patches in the Tennessee Alabama Georgia area, and is considered endangered in some; mostly due to habitat destruction.

A study of the developing fruit of Dock. It's a tough, resilient plant, it's seeds remain viable for 60 or so years, it has deep tap roots and it survives being the food source for many insects. Other than allegedly salving nettle stings we don't seem to have found much use for it, which is a bit sad because it's common as muck. There are 20 or so species in the UK, this one is Wood Dock (Rumex sanguineus).

Water Forget-me-not (Myosotis scorpioides), growing in a splendidly dense and random mass of vegetation in and around a small old quarry pond near our village. The tidy brigade would probably like to get their mitts on it, but thankfully it seems to be being left to nature.

I know this as Corn Sow-thistle (Sonchus arvensis), a large common dandelion type plant which adorns our roadsides in late summer. I much prefer another old name, "Dindle", which the OED reckons may be a contraction of "Dandelion". I can hear a country person pronouncing Dandelion as "Dindeloyon" and it ending up as Dindle.
