Inside story #PrivateSector feasting on #Scotland's #nationalised #trains

The notion Scotland’s #railways are fully nationalised is a mirage

#Scottish Government taken over ScotRail, but the trains are leased from private sector at eye-watering cost

An obscene 25% of every ticket sold goes to private companies leasing rolling stock

#ScotRail needs to replace 69 trains

Abandoning the leasing system would save £362 million

The #UnitedKingdom will purchase $10 billion of #Boeing planes, #US #Commerce Secretary #HowardLutnick said at the White House on Thursday during the announcement of a bilateral #trade deal between the #UK & the #UnitedStates.

Lutnick did not elaborate, but indicated it was a #PrivateSector purchase, saying he would let the airline making the purchase announce it.

Entrepreneurship, #innovation, and #technologyadoption are key to #economicgrowth in Europe and Central Asia [Promoted content]: #Economicgrowth in the middle-income countries of Europe and Central Asia has slowed since the early 2000s due to global challenges and insufficient structural reforms. Countries need to foster a dynamic #privatesector by attracting global technology, expertise, and capital, supporting young innovative companies, and investing in human capital. euractiv.com/section/economy-j

Not the Opposition leader making apologies for asking Canberra to go back to the Office to work, Not the, “I’m going to “sack the Public servants who do the Education👩‍🏫👨‍🏫 and Health things ⚕️🧑‍⚕️👩‍⚕️” (cite), but this from the Opposition Treasurer. ☢️🛢️

“Well done Angus”.

In an interview with ABC News Breakfast host James Glenday:

TAYLOR “We absolutely not backing down on that, I can assure you, James and we’re not backing down to making sure we drive down prices of electricity.”

GLENDAY asks how exactly the Coalition will pay for it?

TAYLOR “#NuclearPower ☢️ is through to 2050, and it’s substantially lower than the cost of Labor’s policies.”

GLENDAY “It’s hundreds of billions of dollars no matter which way you twist it.”

TAYLOR “Well that’s the #EnergySystem. The energy system much of which is paid for by a combination of the #PrivateSector and #StateGovernments. The piece we will #finance, of course, is the #NuclearGenerators which will deliver a return and that’s how we have modelled it, James.”

Well done Angus, now show me the costings?

With no plan, #Liberal / #LNP make themselves open to critical analysis and thus reverse their decisions when deficiencies are pointed out.

When we think of the #PrivateSector we think of dynamic, forward-thinking ideas. Consider how much #shareholder value private water companies have created through interesting ways of doing business.

When we think of the #PublicSector, we think of old, decaying ideas. Consider how the state provides little to no value to shareholders or businesses, especially when it comes to onerous regulations.

It’s simple: the private sector should be able to do the things that the public sector can do – because they will just do it way better.

Let’s start with #education – A is for #Apple Inc.

#Healthcare professionals in #Quebec continue to denounce the government’s #privatization of the network as it starts tightening the belt w/ hiring freezes.

Earlier this week, #GenevièveBiron, head of #SantéQuébec — the province’s new health care management system — said there’s a lot of pressure on the network. Biron→former head of #BironMedical group, which operates in the #PrivateSector, & her appointment led some to worry she would run Santé Québec like a business.

I'd say many of the points raised in this article also apply to #PrivateSector projects—The New Statesman ask;

‘Why do big #Digital projects in the #PublicSector fail?’

“The success of digital projects relies not only on their execution and delivery, but also on creating the right environment to thrive following their completion.”

It would be great to talk. 🙂

"The problem is that #investment is driven by #profit, not #price, and operating solar & wind farms remains a marginal business, dependent everywhere on the #state's financial support.
We cannot expect #markets and the #privatesector to solve the #climatecrisis while profits are unappetizing. But there is an alternative to providing surrogate green profits through subsidies: to take #energy out of the private sector's hands."

While #politicians argue about how & if we might undergo a #greentransition some people are just getting on with it.

A new report from the Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit suggest the UK's #netzero economy grew by nearly 10% in 2023, while also providing well paid & productive employment for #workers.

While good news this will confirm to some on the right that the #privatesector can get on without state aid... but Green Keynsianism would accelerate this further!
