🇬🇧 A day with a lot of things to do and a lot of drawing too and for the fun, even a self portrait. :-)

As Thursday is the day of souvenirs, let's go back to december 2002 a few days before the IC/D services were scraped between Köln and Oostende via Aachen - Liège and Brussels.

Class 1606 heading D/IC 420 from Köln to Oostende with I11 coaching stock arriving in Aachen-Hbf

A DB Class 112.1 has taken over IC/D 415 from an SNCB Class 27 which brought the train from Belgium. Class 112 is a former DR locomotive.

Departure board on platform for train 424 to Oostende.

And a few years after, on Sept., 8 2005, the oldest SNCB EMU's were used on the ephemere IR-Service Liège - Aachen-Hbf.

Have a nice evening!

I don't normally comment on Nigel Farage's fantasy policy pronouncements as right now he could say absolutely anything, what will actually matter is what appears in a future Reform Manifesto (not that one would even expect them to keep to any formal commitments therein either), but it is notable that he has taken aim at rail investment in the North which he sees as a waste of money.

One more example of the predominant SE focus on UK (or perhaps English) politics...

Today's historic photo of the day: Exactly 40 years ago, 44 class Alco diesel locos 4436 and 4431 haul the Canberra Express into Queanbeyan, NSW, September 8 1985.

The NSW #Railways purchased 100 of these locos from AE Goodwin between 1965 and 1967. Powered by Alco 12-cylinder engines, they were examples of Alco's 'World' model, developed from their FA series in the USA. Similar units were delivered to the South Australian Railways (930 class), Pakistan, Argentina, Greece, Spain and elsewhere.

A close-up, eye-level shot captures a rusty metal railway bridge crossing a muddy river in Baranga, Cuttack.
A long Indian Railways freight train with blue and brown carriages is visible on the tracks.
The sky is overcast and the water is still. The highlights here are the bridge's intricate truss structure, which is partially covered in moss owing to incessant monsoon rains.
