Media Diary (July 2025)

Here’s some stuff I’ve experienced lately (and not necessarily only new releases). In addition, our free Stream Team community has a lot more daily action happening on the recommendations front too. 💪

Note: It’s a much shorter list this month due to a little trip. 🇯🇵

Foundation (TV): This show is so sprawling and insane, but I can’t get enough

Superman (Movie): Huge fan, and we got to see it on the trip in English with Japanese subtitles

The Name of This Band is R.E.M. (Book): The fascinating story of one of my all-time favorite bands

Flesh and Code (Podcast): An insane story for an insane world

Squid Game (TV): Thought they brought it in for a “nice” landing

Lost in Translation (Movie): Mandatory viewing while we were in Tokyo (think I’d only seen it close to the original release)

The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift (Movie): Speaking of requirements, watching this while in the city was a real bucket list moment for me

Shy Girl (Book): Still not sure that my jaw is fully off the ground from some of these scenes

Liberty Lost (Podcast): Compelling and enraging

Rhys Darby in Japan (TV): Watched this before we left, and it was (no surprise) a complete delight

But I’m a Cheerleader (Movie): I’d never seen it, and it was exactly what I needed it to be

Autocracy in America (Podcast): We’re BACK, baby (very reluctantly)

Dirty Dancing (Movie): Had been a while, and it still REALLY holds up (with the soundtrack of course being the stuff of legend)

Snow White (Movie): Rachel Zegler was pretty good, but man this whole thing really didn’t need to exist

Her (Movie): Hadn’t watched it in years, and it’s staggering how many of Samantha’s abilities are now just part of our daily lives

Switched to android today from my iphone X to the Pixel 9 - what do my android peeps recommend for apps? Just anything you enjoy or otherwise feel is essential #android #recommendations (unfortunately cant use graphene since im on an installment plan w this one)

:boost_ok: I like getting soap and lotion from independent makers. I want to make sure I am purchasing from good people. I like sweet and floral scents, lotion that melts into skin quickly, and soap with enough slipperiness to shave my legs with it because I prefer multi-use stuff. Also no exfoliating nonsense in the soaps (some people sneak things into it without saying! Holy moly sensory hell!) Oh and no etsy links. Nothing that I need to log in to buy. Recommend me things!

Does anyone have #recommendations #softwareengineering for maintaining a library in two branches where one has subtle #softwaredesign changes that deviate from original design? I'd like to keep branches as closely related as possible. I'm well familiar with #versioncontrol so I know the standard tricks. Unfortunately this will involve actual design and structure so relatively invasive.

I am also considering having both in same library with some toggle or API entrypoint.

What is #DarkSocial? 🥷 Dark social refers to the distribution of #content via #privatechannels outside of publicly visible social networks.

Invisible #Traffic 👻 Many #recommendations and #links reach users via dark social, but are hardly traceable in analysis tools.

#Trust and #Intimacy 🤝 Content shared via dark social is often more #trusted as it is shared directly and #personally in a #private setting and does not come across as #advertising.
