New work by the PhenoCam team led by Mostafa Javadian and others at Northern Arizona University and myself at BlueGreen Labs (providing much of the open source configuration software). This short-communication describes the stability of the new recommended phenocam hardware in respect to the previous cameras.

@EricFielding Eric Fielding, an earth scientist at JPL, wants to use that capability to detect earthquake motion previously obscured in heavily forested areas such as Indonesia and the Pacific Northwest. “That’s going to be a huge advantage,” he says.

Having used Copernicus and other systems for land mapping, this is so cool and such a leap ahead. I'm excited to see if I can use this for disaster assessment and recovery.

How that I have your attention 😉 I would like to exploit it for some work stuff. #RemoteSensing #ImageProcessing communities, I have a real quest. We're segmenting shallow underwarter structures in these archival aerial photos (grayscale, single-band) and the segmentation algorithm picks up... the waves on the water surface, not reefs and such. This gives an artefactual vergence (direction) that is not present in the layer we are interested in, i.e. sea floor. This is SVM in eCognition. Don't mention segmentation in ArcGIS (unless you're a powerful wizard, in that case I bow).
We also have a custom ML model but it's not that good either (yet?). How to get rid of them waves?! #geoscience #EarthObservation

Question for #ecology and #remotesensing folks:

Can GEDI AGBD values be averaged within an AOI to produce an estimate? All the information I'm seeing suggests creating a model with additional products. Is that just to get estimates with better resolutions or for time periods before GEDI availability, or is there some other reason I'm missing?
