Fixed my wife’s umbrella handle with #FreeCAD.

Usually, I just use a thread from the Fastener workbench, but this one wasn’t a standard at all. Cutting it out with the Subtractive Helix tool was so easy that I might just use that method all the time from now on. Normally, adjusting and experimenting with the diameters needs to be done anyway to get the fit just right due to print tolerances.

If the coating on the bike lock breaks, the individual chain links will rub off the paint on the bike. To prevent further damage, the coating is replaced here. Universal tubes are also available on the market if the manufacturer does not offer a replacement.

Denon repair success! When I replaced the blown channel I missed that resistor R106 had burned out open circuit (you can see the discoloured band compared to R105).

Also learned a new (to me) schematic annotation - (NB) for "Non Burning" type. The original was a fusible resistor I think, have replaced with a metal film one which should also fail safely if overloaded. (Carbon or wire-wound resistors can get very hot, instead.)

The amplifier adjusted to spec easily after that, and all channels seem to be working fine.

Ironically I don't have any reasonable speakers on hand, so giving it a burn-in test with 1930s Smithsonian Folkways field recordings (which sound the same even on tinny cheap speakers)...

I guess I'll take it to Vinnies now, I haven't thought of another use for it. But it's a nice feeling to save a well engineered high quality product from scrap...

This week I worked on a Revox B795 that was sold to me as fully working and "restored".

Here's what I found:

- the seller mistook the screws to adjust the suspension for the transport screws, so the subchassis could move freely inside the box
- the motor made grinding noises
- subchassis adjustment was now way off, of course
- the mechanism to lower the tonearm was very sluggish and sometimes wouldn't work at all

Spoke to Chuck Ward again today: he's an expert brass repair technician in the Cleveland, OH area, knowledgeable in restoring Schmidt style Horns. Found out he's now 78, and trying to wind down and retire. NTL, he agreed to help restore my York Schmidt copy (leadpipe replacement, possibly valve work). I'll be driving to Cleveland to deliver the Horn next week. 🙂

Very glad I didn't wait any longer! 😮

Tidying up has meant I've found a few UFOs - yay! it means I can join in with #FinishOrFrogAlong
I already had pencilled in a cross stitch kit I started in the summer, but I'm going to add to the list the Christmas placemats I started last November and didn't get done, and also finishing fixing our bell clock that I was changing the movement as the old one stopped working, and replacing the swinging clapper with one a bit lighter so the new movement can actually make it swing.

The small Bialetti stove top espresso maker was acting up. It would hiss in the middle, indicating leakage. And the inside just looked ugly. Note, I adopted this thing, and I'm not overly familiar with it.

I scraped out the inner rubber ring thingy (aka "gasket", apparently). I wasn't sure if it was glued in, requiring replacement of the entire unit, or if it's a part that can be replaced.

Turns out it can be replaced. It only seemed glued in due to previous use (and lack of proper cleaning). So, I searched the net, and Amazon declared it could help me.

But I've never ordered anything from Amazon. So, I searched for a local shop, and found one nearby called Anthony's Espresso. And there I bought some replacement gaskets.

I cleaned the Bialetti thing, replaced the rubber gasket, and tried it out. Perfect.

This is an item that can be repaired.

If the power supply was failing which would be reduced, voltage or amperage? 🤔
Can't measure >10A with my multimeter, but the 12.08V output of the power supply are absolutely stable when the temperature begins to drop uncontrollably. Meanwhile the MCU reports it tries to give full power to keep temperature.

In my very limited understanding of electronics this indicates that my power supply degraded and doesn't provide all of its 350W anymore?

Our tractor became unstoppable. That is, upon turning the key to off, the engine wouldn't stop. The manual fuel shutoff also did nothing, so I had to block the air intake.

The fuse disintegrated when I checked it, but that wasn't the real problem.

It's actually an energize-to-open valve, but the manual override button was stuck so it was always open. No idea how that happened between yesterday and today, I didn't even open the hood.

Took the assembly off, grinding a slot into that knackered Philips screw, cleaned out 40 years of gunk and now it works again.

Also replaced the glass fuse with an automotive blade fuse holder I had laying around.

Works fine again, although I suspect it's best to have a spare solenoid ready.

Replaced sub-par aftermarket #Thinkpad #P50 keyboard (keycaps not secure and regularly falling off, particularly the large shift key)

Had to wear +1,00 #spectacles to see the tiny ribbon cable connectors on the motherboard well enough to get the cable into position👴🏽 👓

This generic Chinese remanufactured one, bought from EBay and shipped from a random part of London seems quite decent (feels more solid and similar to the original)
