@drweb2 #RuleofLaw no longer applies to anyone not specifically designated by rump #maga etc. The DOJ FBI CIA military national guard no longer serve the people, they serve only one man. Critical to identify the facts. This is no longer America pre Jan 2025.

Donald Trump is right! 🤯

There is a crime problem in Washington, D.C., and we know exactly who the criminals are, and where they are, too.

For example, the biggest crime syndicate can be found in the White House, the House of Representatives, the Senate, and even the U.S. Supreme Court, just to name a few.

Another day, another developing scandal in a privatised industry....

this time, its the Dept. of Transport warning rail firms that their common use of 'lay prosecutors' may be illegal (by which they mean they have taken legal advice that has concluded they should never present cases in courts), and thus throws into doubt a range of fare-evasion prosecutions (I would imagine).

Another cost-cutting exercise that is about to become unstuck!

The FT's summary of Trumponomics:

'The cost of Trump’s transactionalism is clear: trading an economy grounded in the rule of law for one ruled by arbitrary deals. Such a system rewards a powerful few, punishes the small & unconnected, and ultimately erodes the stable foundations on which America’s prosperity has long rested'!

There's a reason I refer to the current administration as 'The Court of Tangerine Tyrant'!...

Trump’s second term is a full-on assault on the judiciary — ignoring court orders, crushing the rule of law, and shredding the Constitution. This isn’t governance; it’s tyranny in plain sight. The courts are being rendered powerless by design. #JudicialCoup #RuleOfLawwww.cnn.com/2025/08/10/p...

Pam Bondi fired him for prosecuting January 6 rioters. He’d do it again: ‘it’s about justice’

“Even though January 6 was one of the most explosive political events in recent history, Gordon said he never had any conversations with a supervisor in which they discussed the political ramifications of what they were doing. The political implications “didn’t matter”, he said. “What we did discuss was the importance we saw in protecting democracy and prosecuting these cases…”

Letters from an American – August 9, 2025 -Heather Cox Richardson

August 9, 2025

By Heather Cox Richardson, Aug 09, 2025

Last Thursday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reposted a video in which Christian nationalist pastors express their opposition to the idea of women voting. “I would like to see this nation being a Christian nation, and I would like this world to be a Christian world,” said Christian nationalist Doug Wilson. In his repost of the video, Hegseth wrote “All of Christ for All of Life.”

But the government of the United States of America is not, and never has been, based in Christianity. In his 1785 “Memorial and Remonstrance against Religious Assessments,” framer of the Constitution James Madison explained that what was at stake in the separation of church and state was not just religion, but also representative government itself. The establishment of one religion over others attacked a fundamental, unalienable human right—that of conscience. If lawmakers could destroy the right of freedom of conscience, they could destroy all other unalienable rights. Those in charge of government could throw representative government out the window and make themselves tyrants.

The United States of America is based not on religion but on the law. The country’s founding documents are the Declaration of Independence, which established the principle that all people are created equal, and the U.S. Constitution, which has gradually expanded since it was first written, increasingly recognizing the equal rights of all Americans.

Re-upping from yesterday: the U.S. can only survive if it restores rule of law, commitment to democracy and being a diverse nation of immigrants and their descendants.
Without doing so, it may exist as something else, but not as the USA.

#NYAG James’s personal lawyer, Abbe Lowell, on Friday called any investigation into #Trump’s #fraud case “the most blatant & desperate example of this administration carrying out the president’s political retribution campaign.”

“Weaponizing the Department of Justice to try to punish an elected official for doing her job is an attack on the #RuleOfLaw & a dangerous escalation by this administration,” he said.

Behind a number of potential (and actual) miscarriages of justice in recent years has been the issue of the reliability of expert witnesses.

Now the deputy president of the UK Supreme Court, Judge Patrick Hodge has warned fellow judge they need to be a lot more careful about how they treat & value such testimony in their courts.

In the end what is needed is better training & regulation of expert witnesses... but will that happen at all soon?
