If you’ve been following my adventures, you know I have two massive female Northern Watersnakes this summer. Yesterday was drizzly and only hit 70°. Usually they tuck themselves away in the wood in those conditions. But late in the afternoon I found this skin running alongside a small stone wall. The skin measures 50 inches and would probably be a few more if I had stretched it out.

Our little shoelace Nebula fell asleep with her head supported on the entrance to her favourite bird nest. Just look at this little face. Her eyes are still pretty huge, but the proportions have gotten much closer to how she will look when adult.
She has grown so well. She is also slowly learning how to eat eggs on her own. It has been a true journey with her. ❤️

@catsalad @ownlife Long ago I characterized #cats: "More degrees of freedom than a #snake".

I used to worry about animal abuse when I saw those photos (I'm sure you've all seen them) of cats poured into a fishbowl, with captions like: "Cats are liquid!". Until someone posted a VIDEO of a cat effortlessly getting itself into one of those bowls, unassisted, and then — just as effortlessly — getting itself out again.

An AMOEBA — never mind a snake! — would be hard put to it to match their flexibility. Truly one of the greatest wonders of the natural world!

Took me about 5 hours so far. Very much about this is unfinished. The lighting effect in the sky is too smooth and not bright-looking enough, there are no cherry blossoms, the clouds aren't right (and I think are supposed to be clusters of cherry blossoms in the original work), the lanterns aren't finished or hanging off anything, many branches are still missing, and the main branch isn't done, but I was intending it to be a pretty quick and rough reproduction, so I'm happy enough with where it is at this moment.

I may return to it at some point to work on it more and improve it, but not at this moment.
