I’m always amazed when I walk in a suburban park and see interesting wildlife. Squirrels? Whatever. But yesterday I saw this snake and today this absolute unit of a turtle. I’ve seen little box turtles before. But this guy is big. That’s my men’s size 11 US shoe for scale. He was probably 14-16 inches of length on the shell and look at that tail! I mean, I knew turtles had tails. But I never saw one so large.

The New York Times · Universal Antivenom May Grow Out of Man Who Let Snakes Bite Him 200 TimesBy Apoorva Mandavilli

Snakes have bitten this man hundreds of times. His blood could help make a better treatment. 🐍

From @AssociatedPress: "Hoping to protect himself from snake bites ... he began injecting himself with small doses of snake venom and then slowly increased the amount to try to build up tolerance. He would then let snakes bite him."
