Today's historic photo of the day: The signal box and mechanical point rodding at the #station at Burrumbeet, Vic, January 24 1987.

Burrumbeet is just west of Ballarat and 140km west of Melbourne on the broad gauge line to Ararat. When this photo was taken, this was the main interstate railway between Melbourne and Adelaide.

Whilst Burrumbeet had closed to passengers some years beforehand, it still had a signal box, it was an electric staff station and was available as a train crossing point

The former manual departure board building in Central Station in Glasgow, with its modern replacement in the distance. Each platform had its own window on the upper floor of the building, and a small team of people would put up and take down boards in them with the times, destinations and list of stops as and when it was required. This continued until it was replaced by a new automatic board in the 1980s.
