Moray was probably the first man to be deliberately assassinated by gunshot, and some of the outrage at his death was directed towards this as a cowardly means of killing an enemy, rather than an honest sword-thrust. <a href="http://bit.ly/20keRDE" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">http://</span><span class="">bit.ly/20keRDE</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/histodons" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>histodons</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/stewarts" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>stewarts</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/scottishhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>scottishhistory</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/historyofscotland" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>historyofscotland</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/maryqueenofscots" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>maryqueenofscots</span></a></p>

It was expressed largely as a treaty to protect both countries from invasion by England. King James was to be married to one of the daughters of King Francois, when they reached a suitable age. <a href="http://bit.ly/1SiDvSC" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">http://</span><span class="">bit.ly/1SiDvSC</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/stewarts" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>stewarts</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/stuarts" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>stuarts</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/jamesv" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>jamesv</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/francoisI" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>francoisI</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/scotland" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>scotland</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/scottishhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>scottishhistory</span></a></p>

Tudor_Times<p><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/OTD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>OTD</span></a> 1542 d. James V, King of Scots, a few days after the disastrous defeat of Scotland at the Battle of Solway Moss. He was only 30, but had been king for almost his whole life. His death plunged Scotland into turmoil as his only legitimate child was a week old daughter, Mary. During his life, James has been a busy king – extending and enforcing royal power, visiting France to promote the Auld Alliance and enhancing the Palace of Holyroodhouse. <a href="http://bit.ly/1eGOFjT" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">http://</span><span class="">bit.ly/1eGOFjT</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/histodons" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>histodons</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/stewarts" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>stewarts</span></a></p>

Henry, known as Lord Darnley, or in Scotland the Master of Darnley, grew up to be a handsome, charming and attractive young man. Unfortunately he also proved to be vain, arrogant &amp; ‘entitled’. Margaret schemed night and day for him to marry her niece Mary, Queen of Scots. She achieved this in 1565 but it ended in tears when Darnley was assassinated in 1567. <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/stuarts" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>stuarts</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/stewarts" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>stewarts</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/maryqueenofscots" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>maryqueenofscots</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/scottishhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>scottishhistory</span></a></p>
