LionelB<p>I have just booked a rail journey of 160 miles. Admittedly I have a railcard but I paid just £21 for a single. </p><p>Something quite dramatic has happened on UK railways, with very little fanfare. </p><p>It is so cheap that it wouldn't be a disaster if I decided not to go. But what's more dangerous (at least here in Europe, especially Germany): As most railway lines are electrified, they have overhead lines with 15,000-25,000 volts. People climbing onto freight cars are in mortal danger. Many 13- to 16-year-olds have died from electrocution.

I was having a conversation with the Kid which reminded me of this.. when we go on urban-industrial "hikes", I really put faith on trains doing what they are meant to do, that is: staying on their tracks.

I have no idea what Hot Molten Sulfur is, but I'm pretty sure I don't want it spilling out of that tank.

And yes, the picture was taken from a trail that goes just next to the track, a favorite trail among the train enthusiasts of the family.

As Fedi is filled with people who love trains, does anybody know if there's any plans to upgrade the Berlin to Amsterdam connection?

It's an IC line now, and it's amazing that there's no direct ICE connection between the two capitals by now, especially as there's a direct ICE connection from Berlin to Paris.
