Arto Koivisto<p>Very pronounced intake hiss is, to me, a very important detail to be managed in the mix (context of a car), because:</p><p>1. Common experience folks have driving a car, it's the regular street variety. So you never hear the hiss as sharp (= expectation)</p><p>2. Engine bay mics really pick up on it. Mixing mic angles, it also sure likes to add up!</p><p>3. C.<p>So, two years ago I bought a new vehicle to replace a 15-year-old one that had been written off after a collision. It's my first brand-new <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/vehicle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vehicle</span></a> I've ever owned. And being from the 2020s, it has a lot more <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/tech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tech</span></a> in it than any previous vehicle I've owned.</p><p>A week or so ago, the rear hatch (which is powered) stopped closing. It gets to about a foot open, then stops and <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/beeps" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>beeps</span></a> and backs up a bit, behaving as if it's obstructed. I don't see any sensors it would use for detecting objects (but maybe they exist, just hidden), so I assume it's sensing motor current or something.</p><p>I booked an <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/appointment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>appointment</span></a> at the <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/dealer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dealer</span></a> to have it checked and fixed. It was a 3-week wait. The <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/service" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>service</span></a> manager said in the meantime to try a " <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/reset" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>reset</span></a> " of the car - just drop by and let them disconnect the battery for half an hour. I told them I could do that myself, and did.</p><p>So they really did just tell me "Did you try turning it off and turning it on again?"</p><p>It didn't fix the <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/problem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>problem</span></a>. But it did give me a new one! Now two of the four side windows no longer support the automatic-all-the-way-up-or-down feature you normally get by pressing the window control buttons to the second stop.
