On June 23, the White House sent to #Congress a notification under the #WarPowers Resolution of 1973 articulating both domestic & international legal arguments justifying the attack on #Iran. These justifications are unconvincing, raise profound concerns as to whether the #ExecutiveBranch has adopted expansive new legal theories justifying the use of force, & now should provide additional impetus for Congress to push back against this unauthorized attack on Iran.

Carrying #Trump’s water, #House Speaker #MikeJohnson says it is not an “appropriate time”for #Congress to consider a #WarPowers resolution.

Johnson's comments come as some members of Congress are pushing for a review of Trump's actions in ordering the bombing of #Iran.

With #Republican *leaders* in the #Senate & House strongly backing the US attacks, it seems unlikely any resolution that asserts the #power of Congress to declare #war & restricts Trump's actions could pass both chambers.

#Trump faces #bipartisan blowback in #Congress on #Iran strikes Why it matters: While most #congressional #Republicans some pro-Israel #Democrats are praising President Trump's strikes on #Iranian #nuclear facilities, pockets of #opposition are already emerging over whether he needed congressional #authorization for such a #provocative use of #military #force. Yes, he did need Congressional #authorization..why is there even a question. #warpowers #foreign #policy #retaliation #democracy #war

Lawmakers push back as Trump signals possible U.S. military action in the Israel-Iran conflict 🇺🇸⚖️ Reps. Massie & Khanna lead a bipartisan resolution demanding Congress approve any war moves. Will Congress reclaim its war powers? 🕊️ #NoWarWithIran #WarPowers #CongressActs #newz
