@HannahHowe Queue my rant against Jimmy Webb that there is no such thing as a "lineman for the county" in or near Wichita, Kansas. The danger of knowing things ....
@HannahHowe I have a soft spot for The Monkees. And "I'm a Believer" is a perfectly fine song.
But this result is a travesty. Wichita Lineman is one of the greatest songs; nay, one of the greatest *things*; created in the 20th century.
Like the failure of Rat Trap to progress in the 1970s poll, this demonstrates why people can't be trusted to make collective decisions. Unwittingly, these polls are strengthening the case for authoritarianism.

@HannahHowe I'm assuming the people who have voted for The Monkees have never heard the song Wichita Lineman - it is one of the finest songs ever written!

@peteralee I like both songs, but would favour Wichita Lineman in this match-up. Also, this is a Christmas poll and the lyrics mention snow…

And I’m not a huge fan of the Monkees, especially that one (which is overplayed imho)
