Hannah Howe

On 26 November 1821, my 5 x great grandparents Samuel Cottrell and Ann Baker married, at St. Botolph Bishopsgate, London. Samuel and Ann had been together for over two years, and had already produced a son, my 4 x great grandfather Matthew.

There is no obvious reason why they did not marry before, or why they chose this time. Maybe they felt that the moment was right.

The family were still living in the dissenters’ hotbed of Dunnings Alley, no doubt weighing up which religious path to follow.

@HannahHowe I'm curious to what extent your family's history was passed down in your family, and to what extent you've had to figure it out. Asking because pretty much 100% of what we know about my families is because I did the research; nothing was ever passed down.

@cjonthehudson My 2 x great grandfather William Howe was a deacon in the Methodist chapel. He had a huge family bible. In the bible he recorded family dates I also found a letter dated 1877. Details about my London ancestors are based mainly on my research.
