Had a bit of a surprise on Sunday, sitting in a friend's garden at the edge of the #NewForest, enjoying a very hot, sunny afternoon .....and this flew passed, landed in a tree and hung there, upside down for a few minutes before flying off again, obviously a #Bat, but which kind....I'm tentatively thinking #GreaterHorseshoeBat

Surprised it was up and about in the day time. Perhaps it got disturbed somehow.
@GnomeBones @Welshgrumpygit Thete was one in a neighbours garden, last summer, in the blazing sun….was wildly flying around the garden for quite a while….no idea why!!
@TheBeastOfBaglan @GnomeBones from what I've read, If they're out in the day it's usually either because their roost has been disturbed, or they are hungry/thirsty (especially if they have young to feed). This one also seemed significantly bigger than those I'm used to seeing flitting around at twilight

The prego-bat most common around housing estates
