Thanks for the mention! Excellent analysis of the implications of using mainstream social media for public institutions, and of the alternatives available
@lmarino @boardswales @wales You're very welcome. I've been trying for many years to change the understanding in Wales about this stuff....a long road to go. People are largely jumping from X to Bluesky without any follow-through of what that might mean
@davidoclubb @boardswales @wales it's a systemic change, so it's only natural that it takes time, effort, lots of discussions. For us at @geant, our decisions to join Mastodon in 2022 and then leave X last year, followed from long consultations and discussions both within the organisation and within our community of National Research and Education Networks (NRENs). We announced our X-it in parallel with @SURF, and in line with many NRENs and R&E institutions part of our community
@davidoclubb @boardswales @wales @geant
If you haven't done so yet, I suggest checking the great work done by @SURF in the Netherlands with their Mastodon pilot for the Dutch Research & Education community - and following @wlaatje, SURF's program manager for Public Values
@lmarino @davidoclubb @boardswales @wales @geant @SURF
some explanation about the creation of a Mastodon platform for Dutch (higher) education, academics and the science community... and why all credits should go to the users who are not afraid of courage, daring and friction.
