It's now two weeks I've been using my own VR kit, and here are my impressions:

  • The tech still feels very rough, even after about 6 years on consumer market. Detailed manuals are rare, for most issues you have to ask people around, even the most polished VR software will have VR-related glitches, e.g., floor occasionally being on your eye level when you launch Beat Saber.
  • Despite all that, it is a unique experience, it doesn't feel like just another game controller. When hanging out with friends in VR Chat who also use VR, the illusion of presence is very strong, and that's a part of what makes it so appealing.
  • Of VR Chat in particular, it does not seem to be a place to find friends, you need to find them outside VR Chat first. Public instances are overrun with annoying kids, people in group instances often block all "Visitor" and "New User" accounts, so you won't be able to join conversations there as well, and it seems to take a lot of play hours to reach "User".#VR

@kadarus Out of curiosity what kind of VR kit you are using ? Here we been using/working with VR "before it even existed on the market" ( and TRUST me the PROTOTYPES were EXTREMELY rough/vomit/seizures inducing 🙄 ) . We currently use PSVR2 and Quest 3 that in our opinion is "the best value for money ever so far". About SW I think we starting to reach some "maturity" I mean it's TONS better compared than how it used to be, Walkabout Golf is a good example of VERY GOOD VR SW ( and *ahem* CONT.

@kadarus CONT Polybius/Moose Life/Akka Arrh too 😎 - shameless promotion ). But that apart there are definitely quite some "really good VR apps" out there ( Alyx for example ). Sure about "setup" in terms of "getting all work" this is still quite a bit "fiddly" and AS A DEVELOPER the SADDEST part ( and most annoying part for me ) has to say "support for developers" is almost NON-EXISTENT from Meta/Quest ( had to say that 😡 ). As for VrChat .. "where is everybody ?" I mean we been using it CONT.

@kadarus CONT. for a number of months now "exploring this and that" SOME worlds are really "bonkers in a GOOD WAY works of ART" .. some are just "something else" but DEFINITELY I'd echo too "not exactly the place to go to socialize unless you really have/know a bunch of friends that introduce you to some" otherwise "at best" is like entering a place where you know nobody and nobody gives a damn about you and/or it's just plain chaos. If you think "I go in VRChat I'll make some friends" CONT.

@kadarus CONT. "NO YOU WON'T", you must have your own friends BEFORE you enter in. But it's still an interesting place to explore some of the many world and see what some people came out with .. even if, most of the time it'll be just you watching an empty world. Note : there should be more beer in those worlds, so far we found maybe 4 worlds where you can actually fill and drink a beer glass 😂 Also what's SO complex with "YT search ?" they all seem to want "weird URLs" in the video players ?
