@llamasoft_ox I think the intention is to discredit Social Security so they can ultimately get rid of it. The Republicans have been gunning for it for a while but they know they can't kill it while it's popular.

@arx they do, that's for sure, but the trouble is it's the Social Security infrastructure and if they end up fucking that up it could end up hurting a whole bunch of vulnerable people who rely on it.
It's just so bad of an idea that you have to wonder if the intent really *is* to sabotage it in order to throw it away.

Note: Social Security in the US only pays retirement and disability benefits. Welfare payments unlike in the UK are not made by the Social Security which is federal but by local regional authorities such as counties.
