I've been using flash cards with my Welsh students for years, and have been paying for a Teacher's account for most of those years, mostly so I can record audio on the cards, which helps the students when learning new vocabularly.

In recent years, Quizlet have become far more aggressive in pushing their "Quizlet Plus" subscription model, which is fair enough, but they make it seem as if students *must* register for a paid accout before using all the features of the site, which isn't the case.

If you have a free account on Quizlet, and are studying cards which a "Teacher" has added into a "Class", you only need to "Join this class" to use all cards that Teacher has added.

As far as I know, if you're a student, the only reason to pay for a Quizlet Plus subscription is to support the website, which is completely fine, of course - please do that, in fact, if you can easily afford to.

I expect there's a free, maybe even open source, alternative to Quizlet out there somewhere (tell me if you know of one), but thanks to our old friend the sunk cost falacy, it's going to be difficult for me to abandon Quizlet after all this time.

(Sorry, I could bang on about this all day.)
