Looking for editorial professionals on Mastodon?

For editors, see and @edibuddies @stetwalk.

For proofreaders, see .

For book indexers, see and @indexodon.

Editors, indexers, proofreaders (ACES/CIEP/EFA/SI), please say hi below. I’ll keep this toot pinned to help find each other. 🤓

@pc_bain @edibuddies @stetwalk Hello! I edit political and classical philosophy texts -- books, papers, and dissertations. I edit in American English, and I have experience working with people for whom English is not a primary language. I am familiar with common style guides. I have an MS in Ethics, so I offer a philosophical sounding-board as well as standard editing and formatting services. That's probably #DevelopmentalEditing?

Now, off to check out these amazing hashtags.

@Lirazel68
Hi there! Thanks for the reply and good to meet you on here. Yes, that does sound more like developmental (aka content/substantive) editing, rather than the line editing or copyediting which follows that stage. Those hashtags are well worth a regular browse. I’m finding lots of my kind of people through them. Hope you do too.

@Lirazel68
Also meant to ask: are you happy for me to boost/share your reply? I will or won’t do, as you prefer!

@pc_bain Oh, what a good idea, thx!
I'm an indexer in USA, accustomed to Chicago format, happy to work in other styles.
I work on science/technology books. I have a broad STEM background and extensive experience working with writers whose first language is not English. I also work as a Research Data Management Consultant. Contact info and more at sarahoelker.com

Good to meet you here too. It’s both a big and small indexing world! Are you happy for me to boost/share your reply?

@pc_bain yes, please feel free, and thank you!

@pc_bain @edibuddies @stetwalk HI there 😊 I do developmental and copy editing as well as proofreading, primarily of genre fiction for independent and small press authors. I love science fiction and fantasy, and especially good LGBTQIA + content.

Hi Dawn. Thanks for your message and boost. It’s good to hear what you work on and I like being able to chat to more editors on here. Is it OK if I share your reply?

@pc_bain @edibuddies @stetwalk Paula, I’ve boosted your terrific post — thank you for focusing on #editing professionals!

I’m a #freelance #editor of #business content (American English): blogs, articles, websites, ebooks, white papers, listicles, newsletters, PR. I work mainly with #smallbusiness and solopreneurs, and have worn many hats in corporate comms and marcom prior to #freelancing.

Thanks very much, Pamela. It’s good to hear more about you and I really like making these new connections. Happy for me to boost your reply in return?

@Dailingual
Da iawn, diolch! My Cymraeg is not up to that standard yet, although I do work on some books on Wales. Ond dw i’n gwella bob dydd. Is it OK if I boost your reply?

Hi! I copyedit medical publications, mostly written in US English and edited to AMA style. Much of the material I edit is written by multilingual authors. My work involves a lot of cross-checking for internal consistency (especially for documents written by committee), de-jargonizing, and some math.

Thanks for this post! (Feel free to boost mine if you like.)

@LAWaldenDVM
Hello Laurie Anne and thanks for replying. Nice to know what you work on and sounds like it’s a good mental challenge. I like that this is putting more editors in touch. And your photo of Buck with the style manual makes me smile. Boost done!

@pc_bain Medical editing is a lot more fun than I made it sound. :)
I used to use Twitter to keep up with editing news, style changes, etc. Threads like this one should make it easier to do the same thing here on Mastodon, so thank you! (And to @Alexis_WordsUnbound for boosting it into my feed)

@LAWaldenDVM @Alexis_WordsUnbound
The challenge is surely part of the fun (most of the time)! Yes, it’s quite a culture shift coming here from over there, and I think overall much for the better, so keen to build this up in good ways. Thank you both for your help with this already.

@pc_bain Editor here! I offer copyediting, line editing, and developmental editing. I proofread as well—usually for a publisher.

I'm partial to fantasy, which explains all the dragons that appear in my posts. It's more fun to write example sentences when they have a magical twist.

That said, I enjoy editing a range of genres. And while I became an editor to work with fiction, I specialize in religious nonfiction as well.

Thanks for this post—it will help people find their community.

@Alexis_WordsUnbound
Hi Alexis and thanks for this. It’s good to hear what kinds of editing others are doing. I’m partial to the odd dragon (draig) of the Welsh variety! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 The editorial community here is certainly building and I’m glad about that. Are you happy for me to boost your reply?

@pc_bain @edibuddies @stetwalk
Hi Paula, thanks for posting this. I mainly do academic and technical editing, focusing on computer science, AI, ML, economics, finance, and related fields.

I also have a course on LaTeX for other academic editors.

@WordsByWesInk
Hi Wes. Thanks for your reply. I like finding out what others work on. That’s interesting too about your LaTeX course. I know some indexes are done in LaTeX, not really in my areas (I’m mainly arts/humanities) but good to know about, so I’ll take a further look into your course. Is it OK if I boost your reply?

@pc_bain

Sure, please do boost. I appreciate it.

@pc_bain @edibuddies @stetwalk
Thank you for this post! I am a freelance copyeditor specializing in environmental and nature writing, science and climate change communication, creative nonfiction, and nonprofit communications. I edit primarily in U.S. English using CMOS.

Excited to find editing communities here!

@ursaborealis
Hello there and thanks for getting in touch. I like the sound of everything you work on! Quite a few editors on here now and rising, which is great to see. Are you happy for me to boost/share your reply?
