Day 9 of the 2022 . The Willow Emerald is a recent arrival in the UK which is spreading west and north quite rapidly. Longer and thinner than our other emerald damselfly species. It lays its eggs into tree branches overhanging ditches, our only species that does that. This one at in August.

A very long, thin insect clinging to a grass flower. It is mainly green, without the blue patches typical of a male Common emerald. It has relatively large claspers on the end of its abdomen. showing it to be a male.
