was the day my old friend, the American Beech (Fagus grandifolia), planted by my father and I in 1963 had to come down. Suffering from Beech Leaf Disease, it was becoming dangerous. It was hard to watch, but they did a good job. Stay tuned for the next chapter!



Two arborists in hi-viz yellow shirts working on the removal of a diseased beech tree. Work is only about half done. A number of large limbs lay on the ground near the base of the tree.
A person in a cherry picker bucket about 40 feet in the air, working on removal of the upper limbs of a very large Beech tree. Grey house and garage and a grey garden shed are directly beneath where he is working. Cloudy sky above, green grass below.
The bottom 15 feet of a very large beech tree with all the upper limbs now removed. An arborist with a very large chain saw is making the final cut to bring the stub down. A rope attached to a tractor is tied to the top to help pull the remains in the safe direction.
The 30 inch diameter stump of a large Beech tree is all that remains. All the brush and sawdust is cleaned up and the job is done. Stump left at my request.
