I’m going out for Sunday lunch, to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and there is one vegetarian dish on the menu. A nut roast. This is why I never usually go out for Sunday lunch.
I’m thinking of asking for three desserts, tbh
@thebaywindowgirl talking of 3 desserts...I've had a trifle already today, I've got cake for later. And bummed out I forgot to buy tiramisu today.
@Vampykitten This sounds like a Good Day.
@thebaywindowgirl it really is =)
@thebaywindowgirl my wife's Instagram is "twopuddingtandy" because when she was pregnant with our daughter, at my work's Christmas meal she had a starter and two desserts. Who's saying no to a pregnant woman?!
@thebaywindowgirl Hello, good evening, and welcome to the 1970s.
@paul_edwin Hilariously, one of the starters is prawn cocktail. I can only assume the whole thing is served with Liebfraumilch and a side order of casual sexism, and people will smoke between courses.
@thebaywindowgirl wife knows this only too well France is even worse. It's either soft goat's cheese, or butternut squash. We recently stayed at a hotel in Tours on way up to Cherbourg, the veggie dish was probably the worst I'd ever seen presented on a plate. I had words with the restaurant manager, she just shrugged her indifferent shoulders and quipped: Your wife could have had the mashed cauliflower. There's a lot of ignorance still out there.
@StriderLongshanks Yes, we often resorted to fish when we lived in France, out of sheer desperation, but I try to avoid it now.
@thebaywindowgirl And never forget that time on a works away day when the vegetarian choice was Grated Cheese with Chips
@thebaywindowgirl Sunday lunch is a real drag as a veggie (or even pescatarian, in my case). I actually don't mind a nut roast if it's good; it just tends to be dire. The worst alternative I've had to endure was a vegetable lasagne. I mean, at least a nut roast kind of goes with the potatoes and veg and Yorkshires and so on.
