There’s absolutely no reason that all COPs are online only…especially after our experience of online gatherings during the pandemic 
@TCMuffin @HarriettMB @aral from what people who attended similar things told me that would be true for the official program indeed. The actual value of these events is the informal hallway talk that happens, which is not possible in online meetings.
That said, I don't understand why they have to build new things to organize it.
@CodexNotFound @TCMuffin @HarriettMB @aral How difficult could it be to organize these informal meetings online? There are virtual space services which provide the same experience. Do all these people from all over the world have to travel to this one location? Just their oxygen consumption alone is bad enough of an effect on that ecosystem, ignoring all the other stuff that happens once they've taken a breath.

If you organize an informal meeting with world leaders it's not really informal anymore.
From what I've heard the power is in the tapping someone on the shoulder in the hallway.
Just like during covid the planned "random talk with the colleagues" doesn't work, while the hanging around after a meeting did.
