@oilyfish you learn something new every day as they say. I did embed the English translation in the alt tag for the image but I'm glad you took the terrible to look it up.

P.S. I was reading a piece about the similarity in meaning between the Welsh word 'Hiraeth' and the Portuguese 'Saudade' a few days ago.

Seems not many cultures have a word for the concept.

@TheBeastOfBaglan it's an alternative front end for YouTube that's open source, kills all the ads, and means you don't need a Google account to subscribe to channels.

@miramarmike this is good to hear. How do you cope with groups/organisations that only communicate on the though our are you not involved in any?
I belong to a few that operate closed groups and have no other means of discussion. This is why I haven't (yet) nuked my account completely.

@eviloatmeal @ChrisWere @jaz yes I do see that as an issue. I am a member of a few things that only happen there. I'm hoping my minimalistic participation policy will be enough.

@jaz I love a good email but it can be an inefficient method of communication. I've started to warn people that they might have to move to the fediverse if they want to find me. So some good might come from it.

I have struggled today. I really wrestled with completely nuking my FB account. Really struggled to deal with all the racist responses to the posts about and the US riots. It's just the only way I can stay in touch with some family and friends.
Finally compromised by unjoining myself from nearly all the group's I was in (I got rid of all my 'dubious' contacts a while ago) and unfollowing a bunch of pages.
I hope that will be enough.

Added to this, the chart at public.tableau.com/profile/pub ("Deaths" tab) which I believe charts the deaths by actual date they occurred, also suggests a recent rise. Remember the last few days' figures on such a chart are likely to go up yet in the light of outstanding data.

We're assured by the government that infection rates are decreasing. This relies on testing, and although stats can be done to get an idea of what's happening, it's complicated and relies on good testing. I hope they're right 2/2

After two days which seemed to suggest that the previous week's rises in deaths had been a blip, today's deaths figure is very concerning. 17 new deaths have been recorded, for a total of 1371.

This represents the highest daily figure since 19th May, and brings the weekly average number of deaths, and the average increase, to its highest since that same date. That's 15 days ago. Averages tend to be a reliable indicator of something actually happening. I'm concerned.

@davidoclubb Ah Ha found it nestled in my confirmations to attend the Thursday Rethinking Wales events. Now downloaded ready for reading later today. I have to say how much I've enjoyed the Rethinking Wales sessions, particularly last week's 'The future of Welsh towns' as I'm now on the board of the Aberdare Business Improvement District.
