(grrr)<br>Ubuntu fix: Remove/rename /etc/dhcp/dhclient-exit-hooks.d/ntp and reboot. </p><p>Now happily syncing with my local <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GNSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GNSS</span></a> receiver.</p>

No one here at <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/UVic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UVic</span></a> wants to set up an <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/FTP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FTP</span></a> server. I don't want to. It would be attacked relentlessly. </p><p>Apparently the device can be polled from here over ssh: it's not going to have static IP. The user is going to use <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Starlink" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Starlink</span></a> (not my choice). Does dynamic DNS work with that service? </p><p>Battery power at the site limits options quite a bit as well. </p><p>Suggestions? Ideas?</p>

Another is that (unless your device already needs the GPS chip for its other functions) that it is unnecessary increasing hardware cost. And Internet-of-Things things are usually connected to Internet, so updating tzdata via Internet is literally single line of code.</p>
