So had a sparky doing some work at home today that required the power to be off for longer than my UPS could handle.

So I powered all the various stuff down and waited for him to finish.

Then the problems began ☹️

First my Ubiquiti Dream Machine SE appears to have bricked itself. Some research suggests it has a habit of doing this after a power cycle 🤦🏻‍♂️ I still have my old firewall around and I'm now thanking my lucky stars I didn't factory default it last week like I had planned to!

And second one of my Intel NUCs appears to have also bricked itself. Didn't have anything important on it only my local GIT server … yes I have backups!

*sigh* this will all be fun to fix!

With quite some precise actions I just dropped the OpenVPN S2S VPN from my Unifi setup and replaced it with an unsupported, but way more future-proof netbird.io setup, which will now also allow me to upgrade my GW machine to newer Fedora versions.

This was previously not possible because UDM still used such an old cipher for OpenVPN, which Fedora dropped in Fedora 36.

Any #Ubiquiti #Unifi #UDM Pro users out there - I've been having a weird topology problem with access points wired-uplinking to each other, chunks of the network disappearing and all sorts of odd stuff. Turns out I had two wired devices with WiFi still active! They were linked to APs and disabling WiFi on those devices has fixed it (understandably). Just leaving this here in case it helps anyone...
