From the Kitchen today ....

🥭 The mangoes are peeled, sliced and in the dehydrator. A messy business, but also aromatic. I'll let them go about 6 hours, check them and shuffle the trays and probably set for another few hours overnight. Lovely small gifts for the raft of people I am meeting next week. 🎁

👩‍🍳 With my #NaturopathPrescribedDiet (very restrictive), green salads from the garden are generally my plat de jour. I add protein to the salads, usually tofu or dried beans. And the best ever dried beans for this purpose come from the freezer via the Instant Pot, via "A Pot of Lima Beans/Butter Beans" from the mentioned cookbook.

👩‍🍳 Honestly, it is the best, most flavoursome way to cook large lima beans, and I am adoring them. I cook a large pot and bag them up for the freezer.

🍚 I've sauteed a whole lot of tofu for use during the week - easy adds to salads, cooking sauces, curries, et al.

I am thinking about soy chunks for today or tomorrow. An easy way to make a curry if you have a lovely curry sauce in the freezer. ✅

Not all soy chunk/TVP/soy mince/etc products are #GF, so if this is important to you, check the label before buying.

Kidney beans soaking for cooking in the #instantpot for the freezer and inclusion in salads.

The last of the buckwheat is cooking. Spicy for breakfasts and as-is for salads.

Very surprised to find out this Dawn PowerWash really works well to get at some of the brown coating on an Instant Pot inner cooking pot that comes from years of cooking. The gray nonstick coating had gotten brown on sides and bottom. I’ve tried methods like using hot water and baking soda to heat up and let sit, vinegar, etc. The spray set for 10 minutes and I used scraps of damp paper towel on the stains. 12 year old pot looks better. #InstantPot #TipOfDay

@JasonThorne Also a reminder that workers at some Amazon locations are striking this weekend. Ordering from some smaller businesses online help spread the wealth some too.

I found the cookbook I wanted directly from the author for about the same price with extra freebie thrown in.

And I found a better deal on a refurbished #InstantPot from a small eBay seller cheaper than Amazon’s Black Friday deal.

I learnt something new this morning. I can make herbal/spice tea in the Instant Pot. Why would I do that, you ask??

* I can make a lot, and store in some bottles in the fridge, to sip over ice.

* No heat from boiling the ingredients on the stove.

* Deep infusion of the spices/herbs.

I also have my eye on a couple of Indian spice mix for infusions that will be perfect for my #NaturopathPrescribedDiet . They are ones I used to make ages ago, but had forgotten about. One is best hot, the other is also gorgeous served cold/iced.

I am sick of packets of beans, lentils etc not fitting into my storage contains - there is always a cup of beans or lentils left over. But I realised today. that I can just cook them in the #InstantPot and store in the freezer, ready for the next meal that requires them. Super ready for future me. ✅

I cooked unpolished Little Millet this morning for the first time (there are at least a dozen millets and I am trying as many as I can). There is not much help online for cooking small amounts (pot-in-pot) in an Instant Pot, so I had to guess. I cooked it with spices and veg, and added lemon juice plus coriander leaves when cooked. This is my standard way when cooking millet for breakfast.

It was a touch overcooked, very porridgey, but delicious.

Now I have a "Nourishing Broth" in the #InstantPot. This is basically anything I have around that I want to use up, plus a mix of lentils and dried beans, lots of fresh herbs from the garden, dried mushrooms, appropriate selection of the pastes and powders I am always making, spices, any veg that needs using, kombu, and more....

I cook so that lentils and beans melt into the broth, strain, and keep in the fridge to have a small bowl each day. It is intense and delicious.

It ticks off many of the things that are recommended to have each day (The Dozen Checklist), so I am very happy. #HealthyEating

I've made the thoran with the crispy stems of some long-stemmed, unknown Asian greens, and it is delicious. Dosa batter is fermenting well. Sweet potatoes roasted. Puy lentils cooked to perfect mushiness for croquettes (thanks #InstantPot). Aji Verde made and it is delicious!

All done inbetween work bits. Now to see if dishes do themselves 😄 #nodishwasher
