Maybe it does not speak MUC-MAM (message archive management for group chats)? What are the MAM settings of the server? E.g. <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/prosody" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>prosody</span></a> by <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@prosodyim" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>prosodyim</span></a></span> defaults to one week for expiry, IIRC.</p><p>When I started using <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/Jabber" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Jabber</span></a> (≈&nbsp;2014), reliability was not very good, indeed. Nowadays it is 100&nbsp;% for me.</p><p>Compared to Matrix, I'm only missing "XEP-0503: Server-side spaces" and animated stickers in <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/XMPP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>XMPP</span></a> 🙂</p>
Litchi Pi<p>Spent a morning scratching my head to try to setup <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/xmpp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>xmpp</span></a> server <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/prosody" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>prosody</span></a> on my homelab, as I want it to be reachable behind a <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/nginx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nginx</span></a> proxy:<br>- chat.domain.org for the main domain<br>- muc.domain.org for the MUC<br>- uploads.domain.org for the files</p><p>I want nginx to handle HTTPS, ACME, etc... and XMPP only care about the messages, nothing related to SSL.<br>Also, allow only port 443 open from outside, and do not touch DNS if possible</p><p>Am I missing something ? <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/selfhosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>selfhosted</span></a> community ?</p>

Je ne vais pas chercher à savoir si c'est vrai ou pas, je ne compte pas lancer un débat à la emacs vs. vim (alors que j'utilise nano, en plus).<br><br>Par contre. nigelFinally have my Prosody server all compliant!<br><br>I had an epiphany last night about something in the nginx config and after sorting that, all the optional XEP listed also pass!<br><br>Now to convince wife and kids to use it for our group chat... they <i>really</i> don't want to install any more apps, because I'm "being difficult" because they already use whatsapp 😑<br><br>The main reason I'm impressed with it over matrix, is reliable notifications. It just works. So far, anyway.<br><br>Thank you to the people that replied to my post last week suggesting I try xmpp after the matrix server we used shut down.
