Day 18 of the 2023 . It looks very like the two common species with blue males, but Southern Damselfly is one of our rarest species. This one was in the , a stronghold for them, in June.

A long, thin, bright blue insect sits on a blade of grass. On the second segment of its abdomen is a black mark in a complicated shape, often described as looking like the traditional symbol for mercury. This shape would be less complex if it were one of the common species - a u shape for Azure Damselfly and a round blob for Common Blue.
