There's an open-source alternative to Last.fm, which is most pleasing.
It's called ListenBrainz, from the folks at @metabrainz
You can also import and sync your Last.fm data, which is great because I've a lot of scrobbles and I'd be bereft if they were to vanish.
Anyway, you'll find me here: https://listenbrainz.org/user/gavomatic57/
Much like Mastodon it is supported by donations rather than ads, so it's worth slinging them a few quid each month. Excellent.
@gavin57 @metabrainz And the more people use it, the better its recommendations become for everyone. I love that there's finally no payola.
@gavin57 Thanks Gavin, made our day -a
@gavin57 good to know of a alternative to last.fm because i'm certain they will inevitably make a deal for some LLM to harvest our scrobbles
@thesinkingbelle Absolutely! It still isn't easy to scrobble directly to Listenbrainz aside from a few clients, but my scrobbles are mirrored now for when that inevitable day comes. I'm really hoping @plexamp adds an integration soon.
@gavin57 what client have you found works best?
@thesinkingbelle I’ve not settled on one yet, as I’m quite wedded to Plex and Qobuz, but I understand Tidal works with it and a few OSS players like VLC. Hopefully that’ll improve before Last.fm does something stupid.
@gavin57 thanks...I just remembered how old and unsupported my current music player is (Clementine)
however, it seems that at least the Strawberry fork has support for it, so I guess i'll switch to it someday
