I was almost sure there was something wrong with my translation button (I thought it wasn't visible when it should be) and now I can't reproduce the issue anymore. Maybe there was no issue in the first place and I just didn't see the button?
So, for those of you whose posting language (per the Mastodon settings) is not German, I'm posting something in German below. German-speakers can try with this post.
Using the latest version of Megalodon: Does the translation function work for you?
Hier der versprochene Beitrag auf Deutsch. Darunter (direkt unter dem Text, wenn ihr den Beitrag öffnet) sollte ein "Translate"-Button sein.
Note that the button is only there after opening (tapping) a post. Thought about changing that (to avoid confusion), but I think this would unnecessarily clutter the timeline…
(Please don't select "No, there's no button" if you do know about your server not supporting it.)
@megalodon No translate button for me. Hi @jaz, is the translation feature working on toot.wales? Thanks.
@megalodon @jaz Thanks for finding that out. That's a very handy link. Any chance that could be enabled please @jaz?
@druid @megalodon we can install https://libretranslate.com/ or https://www.deepl.com/en/translator - both would be a paid option and neither offers Welsh, which would be the main driving factor for installing and paying.
@jaz @megalodon I see. That's a shame I didn't realise there was a cost involved. I migrated from mastodon.green so have carried over a few European contacts. I currently use Google translate for their messages.
@druid @megalodon once we get a sense of what the recurring monthly donations look like we can have a better discussion about it, but as we are still in month 1 of accepting donations it's hard for me to figure out what we can rely on to sustain these sorts of costs. I will know a lot more by end of December / early January.
