Is there a reason why (English) Forestry plantations don't have to keep footpaths/bridleways clear? eg Harwood or Kidland in Northumberland.
Often a footpath/bridleway will be completely impassable due to thick forestry, is this something to report to the council or is it permitted?
I know they often have forestry tracks nearby, but not always, not where you want to go, and not in Open Access land so not clear that it's permitted
@sarahdalgulls Have the council released a definitive map of legal rights of way? My local council don't make it public, so really hard to know which ones are actually rights of way and which are permissives that can be closed on a whim.
@mightyriot good idea - our council do do this. and I've met someone while out and about who surveys and assesses them all as a hobby
@sarahdalgulls I imagine if you send them specific paths that you're interested in they'd also be able/obliged to tell you what their status is. They might not even know they're not accessible.
