I bought a bag of mixed oddments of embroidery and darning yarn, wrapped on bits of card and paper, I noticed writing on one pit of card, and some newspaper, so I unwrapped them, and found some little treasures. The news paper is from 1953, as it mentions the launch of the Royal Yacht Britannia.

I imagine it was Bess who wrapped this thread around a piece from one of her old birthday cards. Thank you Bess.

One of the pieces of card unwrapped is in two pieces. On one is hand written To Dear Bess and on the other a printed message "Sending birthday greetings, that today and always too, You'll have the chance of seeing, Special hopes and dreams come true"
A torn corner of newspaper which had been folded up into a strip. At the top is the day Monday and date April 13 and below are radio listings starting at 6.30 am including news, weather, music performances and "Lift up your heart" - A talk by Mrs Maude Brayshaw.
The reverse side of the newspaper lists highlights of the television diary for the week ahead - including Her Majesty the Queen naming the new Royal Yacht - which dates the paper to 1953.
