Spent some time earlier in the week adding a 256GB disk to my #RaspberryPi 5 with their new SSD kit. Then exercised it by installing Guix (https://guix.gnu.org) using the shell installer, to create a new little workstation. Had to forgo the CPU cooling fan which had been previously in the Pi official case, just left with a tiny heatsink. And, yes the CPU temp ranged up to 83C, so a new cooler is definitely needed.
So nice to have very capable Cymru-manufactured computing kit available.
Hopefully this will provide some respite for those little stressed ARM cores. (Providing that prizing the old heatsink off isn’t too destructive.)

Slightly nerve-wracking getting the old heatsink off, but instructions for applying the new cooler very clear. Now installed and what with the larger heatsink and the fan (which is silent in a quiet room and only comes on under heavier system loads as expected) keeps the temperature around 45C.
