Someone might object and say that "True, if a high salary is your main success measure, then doing a #Humanities PhD is probably irrational, but you can measure quality of life and work satisfaction instead". To which I must reply that a Humanities PhD usually scores pretty poorly on those counts as well.

The Employment Agency publishes an annual list of jobs where there aren't enough applicants. Year after year the list is dominated by jobs you get when you flunk out of a uni programme halfway. There are very few free positions as Head Pharmacist, but quite a lot as Assistant Pharmacist with less pay. Interesting from a game-theory perspective. Is it rational to finish your degree? It sure isn't rational to go on past an MA in the #Humanities.
