I spotted an accessibility issue with VoiceOver when multiple languages are in use.

Multiple toolbar items are having their trait info be read in the preferred language at the system level, not the per-app language setting.

Less of a problem on iPadOS than iOS, but still does happen.

And since AI voices are getting pretty good, you can now also 🎧 listen to articles on my blog!

(I also added the ability to upload voiceover that I record myself and that will be marked with an icon showing a human, but I haven't actually done any yet. 😅)

I find it ironic that my school, which is a school for the blind, uses an app called band which is not the greatest with #voiceover #accessibility. It works but there's some things in Korean which I assume are just pictures or icons. there's also a bunch of other problems

Chapter markers in some podcast apps seem to have moved. If you use #Overcast, you need to go into the Episode Info to find them now. You can jump to a specific chapter by tapping on the time stamp for that chapter.
For #Voiceover users, double tap on Episode Info, then swipe past the episode details until you find the markers. To move to any chapter, double tap on the time which is designated as a link and comes before the chapter title.
I have no idea why this has happened, but I was wondering why chapters weren’t being shown on the Now Playing screen.

***Attention! If you miss MSN/Windows Live Messenger, AIM, and/or ICQ, this is for you! If you use a screen reader and want a 100% accessible messenger client, this is also for you.*
This works with Windows XPthrough 11, and I'm logged into it as I write! It's called Escargot, and it revives Windows Live/MSN Messenger. This is the original software, but it has been patched so that it connects to the escargot.chat server and not the Microsoft one. It is 100% free and accessible with NVDA and I'm sure JAWS as well. They also have projects for AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) and ICQ, including for Android and IOS, and are working on a web client for MSN. (I don't know if AIM or ICQ are accessible with screen readers, as I have never tried them). Anyway, if you're over twenty-one (my personal request), have read my profile here, and wish to add me, I am dandylover1@escargot.chat. You can find everything here.

Note: If you already have Windows Live/MSN Messenger on your system, you will still need to download their version and create an account. Your Microsoft, MSN, or Hotmail one won't work for signing in. Also, remember to click on RUN_AFTER_INSTALL.exe, in order to patch the program to the Escargot server.

Saw an ad for a male voiceover job that’s seeking an accent that’s either English or “transatlantic”.

What does “transatlantic” even mean in this context?

Edit: As of build 2.25.20.83, this issue has been solved. The Voice Message button now behaves as expected.

PSA: If you use VoiceOver to send voice messages on iOS with WhatsApp build 2.25.20.75 and tend to lock the button, you will find it difficult to send the message. The send button disappears from VoiceOver's consciousness and the only way to have it reappear is to use screen recognition.
If you simply double-tap and hold, speak and then send to release, you will be fine.
I recommend either not updating at this time if you haven't already, or if you have, double-tap and hold for the foreseeable.
Be advised that shutting down WhatsApp completely and reopening the conversation will hide the text box as well as the send button from VoiceOver until screen-recognition is used, so even this is not an easy work-around.
Feel free to pass this on as necessary.

I am posting this due to the wonderful enthusiasm of the developer in regards to accessibility. When I asked if this app is accessible with Talkback, this was the response I received.

"Comment from Hakanft on R/Android

Thanks for asking — and that's a really important point!

The app was built using React Native (with Expo), so it should support basic TalkBack functionality out of the box. However, I haven’t fully optimized or tested it for screen reader accessibility yet. 🙁

Your question made me realize I need to improve this — and I will! If you're open to sharing feedback after trying it, I'd truly appreciate it."

The app itself is not only a great idea but can be extremely helpful. It is a fun way to gauge your water intake and ensure that you are drinking enough water each day. It also works with twenty-nine languages! Below is the full discussion on Reddit, ttcomplete with IOS and Android links.

#VoiceOver experts, I need advice. I've got a component like what is shown here. Semantically, this is one element with a title, a slider to adjust the value, and a text field for manually editing it. I cannot figure out how to allow control of both the slider and text field. When I combine or ignore children and then programmatically set focus on the TextField with a custom accessibilityAction, it does focus, but VoiceOver does not announce the state. #SwiftUI

I'm exploring the #IOS app called Open Vibe: a tool that combines open social feeds into one interface. It's a little funky with #VoiceOver but I'll play a while. I wonder if this will post to both my Bluesky and Mastodon timelines?

If any emerging narrators are not afraid of a little edginess, I would love this post to be recorded. I used previous donations to hire a audiobook narrator to record my, the architectural hostility of doorknobs post, I’m unable to pay for this recording at the moment, but if anybody wants to flex their narrator muscle or portfolio, I would be more than happy to shout you out, share your résumé, anything I can do to make pro Bono recordings less wasteful of your time and energy!
