#WritersCoffeeClub 6 June. What are the conventions of the genre in which you write? How strictly do you follow them? Part B - Creepypasta: Weird tales.
This is my invention, so I conform to the conventions. Some of which are shared with Creepypasta and Weird Tales.
1. There are no fixed rules. Every situation and creature is different. (This is the most important rule. All others bow to it.)
2. First person, writer as narrator. There is no 3rd wall.
3. Weirdness and horror await around every corner, if you have the bad luck to see it.
4. Horror is physical and usually your worst enemy.
5. Don't look into their eyes. This is a corollary of 3.
6. Things are more powerful near water.
7. If you run into something supernatural, see a Shinto priest to have it removed.
8. Your odds of having a supernatural experience increase manyfold once you have your first encounter.
9. Buddhist and Shinto chants may help you, as do salt, sake, and perhaps unclean things such as smoke, smoking, pissm, etc
10. Not everything is harmful, but everything has it'd own agenda which has nothing to do with human desires or morality.
110. Anything that exists long enough will obtain a soul and be able to use magic. Treat your tools kindly, or they may exact revenge.
there are more but that is a good sampling.
