It has been repeated a lot that cats don't "talk" to each other by vocalizing.
I think it stems partly from not having insight into the dynamics of feral cat groups, so we usually dont get to witness their vocalisations.

However, Tinykittens.com, the feral cat rescue group from B.C., Canada, who manages several large feral cat colonies, including with webcams set up, -- they report that in these tight-knit feral cat groups the cats do "talk" to each other by all kinds of Mrrs, Meows, Grunts, Chortles etc.
🙂

But almost no one knows about it.

That's what i like about Tinykittens HQ so much: in the 10 years they exist, they have been expanding the knowledge about feral cats so much, sharing it with the world (thru their 24/7 webcams in their rescue headquarter, an informative website) and have been sharing it with professionals like veterinarian hospitals and universities as well.

Yes, I understand. It's a difficult situation for you as well.

Just throwing this out there: trying to find a place as a "barn cat" for the momcat?

e.g. "Alley Cats And Angels" seems to have a Barn Cat Program

Not being local I of course have no further info. It is just an idea. :)
