If necessary, ties will be broken by the American Film Institute’s ranking as determined by their jurors’ votes in 2007.

“I thought basically that the most important thing to capture was the human conflict, the human cry, the human need. And to tap that.” - Al Pacino.

To prepare for her role, Jane Fonda spent a week in New York City observing call girls. She was disturbed that none of the men showed any interest in her, which she believed was because they could see that she was really just an "upper-class, privileged pretender."

@HannahHowe I can't believe these two have to meet so early in the brackets!! One is already going home!

@bransonturner Klute didn’t make the American Film Institute’s top 32, so wasn’t seeded for this poll. Personally, I’d be happy for both movies to progress. Indeed, Dog Day Afternoon may well be my favourite 1970s movie.

@HannahHowe @bransonturner It's a brilliant movie. Klute's also good, but not top of its genre, while DDA is such an original

@OutOnTheMoors @bransonturner That’s a great assessment. I’d place Klute high up in its genre while Dog Day Afternoon is close to unique.
