“Memory and dream are intermixed in this mad universe.” #jackkerouac #doctorsax
I've reached the third book in my reading of Jack Kerouac's work in the order of his 'Duluoz Legend' and this is the title "Doctor Sax". Although it's placed here chronologically in terms of the content and the story of his life, it was actually his fifth published work, written in 1952 while he was staying in Mexico with William S.
@kaggsy59 I've just read this too, but as the second book in the “Legend” -- oh, are you including “Atop an Underwood”? I've never even seen that. Time to search out a copy. Next up for me is The Town and the City, which I've also never read, but am looking forward too after reading his journals last year resparked my interest in ol' Jack.
@kaggsy59 (Sorry, just catching up with your blog, and see that you started with T&C.)
@nic I did! Wonderful book!
@nic I'm going with one of the lists here https://thedailybeatblog.blogspot.com/2018/02/jack-kerouac-duluoz-legend.html but I have put The Town and the City first because it's my project and I can!! I don't think I'll include Atop an Underwood - I have it, but will read it separately. I love T&C, think it's a wonderful book - hope you enjoy it!
@kaggsy59 I was just reading that same page. That's the copy of Dharma Bums I have, and love, but I've never seen that matching “On The Road”. I agree with you about your original copy of “Sax”, very strong Child Catcher vibe! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_Catcher
@nic It certainly is - a bit offputting really, but I would never part with my originals. It's hard to read them nowadays, though, as a lot of them are very fragile!
@kaggsy59 hehe, I know what you mean, but I've just got rid of my old Picador edition of Gravity's Rainbow, with such a tasteless cover I had to put stickers on it before I could take it out of the house. (It's the one with the V2 rocket attached a woman's crotch and legs in stockings and suspenders.)
@nic LOL, that I understand....
