Bad software & services, deliberately lacking #interoperability ❌

Today, I shut off Apple's closed #iMessage service entirely. Now using #Beeper as a universal inbox, with #Signal, #WhatsApp & #Slack DMs ✅

Goal: shutting off all 🍏 services will make it much easier to switch to cheaper hardware in future. Which is why Apple’s entire business model depends on tying their hardware to their software & services

Finally migrated the last remaining #Telegram group chat I cared about and said good riddance to Telegram. The group was a vestige from yesteryear when this group was split between iOS and Android (we're all blue bubbles now).

All the group chats I'm responsible for are now either on #iMessage or #Signal. 💬

My final battle ground is the a handful of #WhatsApp group chats that I care about but don't have enough influence over. Yet.

One issue in switching from #iOS to #Android - #iMessage won't let go of a lot of my texts...

I turned it off on all my devices before I switched phones, but for some reason it is still intercepting them somewhere and they are going in to a void.

Anyone know how to force Apple to stop messing with SMS and allow them to be routed to the right device?

Ok, fediverse, the fountain of endless knowledge, I have a burning question. Please enlighten me on how you interpret this claim.

"When you’re added in a group chat with someone, have you gained the implicit permission to post creepshots of the people in the chat if you happen to bump into them in your daily life?
Is this an universal rule or does it have some rules/limits on it?"

People need to realize there's not one perfect app.

  • They can have multiple very good options that do their part or one shitty bloatware that does nothing even halfway acceptable.

The former are #IRC, #XMPP+#OMEMO, #WebCall, #OnionShare, #Linphome, #Mumble, …

The latter one are #MicrosoftTeams, #Discrord, #QQ, #WeChat, #iMessage, #Signal, #Matrix, …

Ich versuche die Funktionen der iOS Geräte zu kategorisieren, aus Nutzersicht. iPhone kommt ja von Telefon, und hat sein Dasein der #Kommunikation zu verdanken. Das ist die wichtigste Kategorie, sie umfasst telefonieren - wo ein Umstieg („de-apple“ oder #unplugtrump) nicht komplex sein dürfte. Dann kommen #iMessage (abgeschaltet, aber da tut‘s schon weh) und #FaceTime (naja) und… #Email (#iCloud alias Apple ID). Anderes ist ursprünglich nicht dem originären Zweck des Geräts zugedacht…
